Our Purpose

The First Congregational Church in Ridgefield was founded nearly three hundred years ago, twenty years before the birth of George Washington, and, as a result, has been part of long and proud American history. Before the separation of church and state, the church was indeed the governing agency and taxing authority of the town of Ridgefield. Today, the church stands as a reminder of the town’s religious roots and heritage.

During these nearly three hundred years, the Church has seen many changes in our society and out lifestyle. One of the more recent changes has been the growth and development of the Internet – the World Wide Web. When used in a positive manner, the Internet can help enrich our lives and improve our knowledge and communications.

And, we, the First Congregational Church, have developed a place on the Internet. As we have created our Web site we have established three goals for our Internet presence.

  1. To reach out to others who may be elsewhere and seeking information about churches in Ridgefield and the community in which we live.

  2. To provide our traveling families and those who have moved away or gone elsewhere with a ready and constant source of information about our Church.

  3. To keep our current members, friends and visitors informed about our current Church activities, projects, and opportunities soyou may be active participants in the life of our Church.

We have had an Internet Web Site for several years and our site is generally available for anyone on the Internet to visit and view. It is easy to find us. You just need to enter http://www.firstcongregational.com/ in your browser and you they will be there. It is our hope to be able to make the site known to the Internet, and thus to the world.

There are many things we can do beyond what you will see here in this visit to our site. So, this is a beginning, a start, of what is to be a journey. -- a journey to utilize our modern and advanced technologies to help spread God's love near and far, to enrich each of our lives with the Christian spirit, and to keep all of us better informed about the wonderful opportunities to participate in the life of our church.

What next ....... we need your comments and opinions

Do you like what you see on our Website? What would you add or what do you think is not needed? What else? More detail about mission projects? How about an expanded youth section? And perhaps one directed at kids who are off at college or on some there adventure that takes them away from Ridgefield. Should there be a financial page with church related financial information?

Please take the time and send us your comments, thoughts, and ideas – both good and otherwise. Remember to think about your comments in light of the three purposes listed above.

You can send your comments in several ways:

Send an e-mail to Office@firstcongregational.com.

Or, just write some comments on a piece of paper and drop it in the collection plate or leave it at the church office. Just mark your comments "Church WEB Site comments".

"Arise, my people! Let your light shine for all the nations to see! For the glory of God is streaming from you. The glory of the Lord will shine from you. All nations will come to your light." -- Isaiah 60

This is a beginning; let our light shine for others. So help out and start the "cards and letters" coming. Your feedback will be appreciated.
