Senior Minister

Deacons: are lay leaders, responsible for the spiritual welfare of the church in conjunction with the Ministers. They assist in all worship services, prepare and distribute Holy Communion and oversee the enlistment of ushers and greeters for the services. The Deacons also arrange for visitation of those who are ill or home-bound and assist those in special need. The Stephen Ministers are under the auspices of the Board of Deacons. read more

Missions: The church supports a number of organizations serving the local community, region and world. The church becomes deeply involved with these missions supporting them not only financially but with a variety of aid. The Board of Missions role is to help develop and coordinate the relationship, help fund the programs and to educate the congregation on the important work these organizations' accomplish. Trustees: are responsible as stewards of the Church grounds and buildings. They oversee all financial assets of the Church including a portfolio of stocks and bonds: and keep the insurance coverage of the Church. The Board creates an annual budget and handles all financial dealings of the Church. Trustees oversee the duties and responsibilities of the Treasurer and Financial Secretary as well. This Board is also responsible for the job descriptions and performance reviews of the Church Administrator and Sexton. read more

Children's Ministries: This Board is responsible for the educational programs of the children. Members help develop objectives and goals for the Sunday School curriculum and design and evaluate new programs as needed. The Board recruits and provides training as well as support for the teachers. This Board also oversees Vacation Bible School and help in the planning of special activities for children and their families. read more

ChristCare Ministries: ChristCare is a ministry of small groups, usually 3-12 people, with a trained group leader. Groups meet regularly, in homes or at church. ChristCare Groups provide an environment to be in small community, to share with and care for others and to experience the love of Christ in a personal way. The groups are generally formed around a topic, but stress care and community, prayer and worship, bible study and service to others. read more

Congregational Care Ministry: The mission of the Congregational Care Ministry, First Congregational Church, is to connect congregation members and friends who have physical, emotional and/or spiritual needs to the appropriate caring ministry(ies). read more

Music Ministries: This Board assists the Music Directors in matters concerning the voice and bell choirs, i.e.: robing and filing music. The Board also plans special musical events and activities. read more

Stephen Ministry: Recognizes the brokenness in all of us and helps to bring Christ's healing to us and helps us through trained lay people committed to meeting one-on-one with those in need. God calls us to care for and nurture one another. Training and Supervision is on-going. read more

Youth Ministries: This Board works with the Youth Directors to plan and execute activities relating to the Jr. and Sr. High Fellowships. Members act as chaperones for activities and retreats, and provide adult leadership and support for activities of the Youth Program. In addition, the Board sets policy, maintains financial records and participates in the evaluation of the Youth Directors. read more

Main St. Singles Fellowship: The Main Street Singles group is sponsored by our church, but is open to all singles. It is an informal group and has activities throughout the year. read more

Women's Fellowship: All women of the church are members and are encouraged to participate in the activities of one or more of the 4 "circle" groups for fellowship and fun. There are luncheons and meetings throughout the year and many projects and mission activities to become involved in. read more

Memorial Garden and Columbarium: This Garden is dedicated to the memory of the Reverend Dr. William Grant Nigh, 18th Pastor (1987-1994) of the First Congregational Church, Ridgefield, CT. The true measure of a man and his lasting legacy is the imprint that is left on the hearts and minds of others. As a truly humble servant of Christ, Reverend Nigh served God faithfully, this church tirelessly and all of God's children lovingly. His memory will long be cherished. read more

Hospitality: This committee creates an organized program for the maintenance and growth of the membership of the church. Members of this group help new members assimilate into the life of the church. This committee also enlists ushers and greeters for the worship services and works closely with the Ministers and the Board of Deacons regarding pastoral calls and special needs. read more

Senior Minister Search: The Senior Minister Search Committee wants to thank the congregation for keeping us in your prayers, for giving feedback and input, and for giving your support. The search process is time consuming however we have and are continuing to review many ministerial profiles (resumes) received from UCC along with referrals by members and friends of First Congregational. read more
