Our History

Founded nearly three hundred years ago, twenty years before the birth of George Washington, the First Congregational Church has been part of American history. Before the separation of church and state, the church was indeed the governing agency and taxing authority of the town of Ridgefield. Today, the church stands as a reminder of the town’s religious roots and heritage.

Over time, the Church has been served by eighteen permanent ministers who worked in three different church houses.

Reflections of the rich history of this congregation can be found throughout the church in its many plaques, stain-glass windows, and memorials.
