Prayer is our connection with God, the channel for His will and purpose for our lives. It is also a powerful way for us to support one another in times of difficulty or celebration. As it says in scripture: “Let love be genuine . . . love one another with mutual affection . . . rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer” (Romans 12:9-12). And, “Rejoice in the Lord always. . . . Do not worry, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:4-7).
Prayer ministry at the First Congregational Church flourishes in a number of ways. . . .
Prayer requests can be activated by completing this online form. Your prayer request will be forwarded to our Prayer Chain ministry and to one of our ministers.
Prayer requests may also be submitted on cards, available in the pew racks, by placing them in the offering plate or giving them to a Deacon (with a blue name tag).
Prayer partners are available after every service of worship for those desiring a time of personal prayer.
Sermons by Dr. Hambrick-Stowe and others who preach during the church’s worship are available in several formats. You may locate and access the sermon archive, or you may request a CD of recent worship services by calling 203-438-8077
Our Senior Minister, Dr. Charles Hambrick-Stowe, writes a weekly devotional meditation that is distributed by email. Read this week’s e-devotion. If you wish to receive a weekly copy of Rev. Charlie’s weekly e-devotional, email firstname.lastname@example.org, and you will be added to our distribution. You may unsubscribe at any time.
The church offers many opportunities for Bible study and small groups, where you will share in fellowship, prayer, and the study of God's Words. We encourage every member to become involved in such an experience in a setting that is most personally helpful and appropriate.
Available groups include:
- Women’s Bible Study, Thursdays, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm in the Parlor
- Men’s Bible Study, Saturdays, 8:00 am – 9:00 am in the Parlor
- ChristCare Small Group Ministry
FCC is dedicated to supporting the spiritual lives and enriching the spiritual well-being of our community. Stephen Ministers are FCC members who receive 50-hours of training and commissioned to provide in-depth, confidential Christian care for anyone in need.
ChristCare is a minisitry of small groups, each guided by a trained leader. These small caring mini–communities within our church are formed around a topic with Christ at the center, but each stresses care and community, prayer and worship, Bible study and service to others.
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another…”
“Carry each other’s burdens, and this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
